Classes: Week 6

Hey guys!!!! Last week was the final week of foundation 1 (my first semester of sorts). I didn’t do anything exciting in class on monday. Actually I lied the first half of class on monday we as class learned how to make gazpacho (which is crazy simple). Checkout my BITES from last week for more info. Then after we made the gazpacho my class was invited to a Thanksgiving lunch held by the catering class (last class I’ll take at school). After lunch I worked on cuts for my kitchen practical on Wednesday.

I’m about one-sixth through my time in class. After I’m get done with classes in the up coming fall I have to get a 12 week externship (or a two 6 week ones from different restaurants) to complete my degree. Everyone who know me knows that I love to travel and explore new places. Ever since I got back from a semester aboard in Florence, Italy I’ve been obsessed with the idea of living in Europe again. On Tuesday after my nutrition exam I had to do scavenger hunt to answer some questions on a sheet. As I was wondering the school looking for the answers to the questions I ran into the president of the school (chef Bachmann). He was kind enough to answer my questions. When we got to the question about externships; he explained how Le Cordon Bleu partnered with resorts in Spain and Italy. When I heard this my heart nearly jumped out of chest. He told me that I could do a 12 week externship in Spain or Italy. The resort provides housing and I still get paid. After talking with Katie I’m all over this opportunity. Since I’ve lived in Italy already I think I’ll go for Spain. I’ll keep you guys posted on those developments.

On Wednesday (my last day of foundation 1) I took my last kitchen practical. It’s kind of like a final exam. It took me about 2 hrs to finish it. Afterwards I got my final grade in the class. I got a 93% in the kitchen and a 97% in sanitation and nutrition class. It felt good to see my hard work is paying off. On a sad note it was the last day with chef Williams. I was pretty bummed out but I was grateful to have been able to get to know her. After my test I gave chef a hug to show my appreciation. Then to celebrate being done with F1 a few of my classmates and I went to the Farmhouse (a restaurant near the school) for a bite and drinks. I got a Zombie Dust and had some fries.

That about it for week 6. I’m currently on spring break so there won’t be a Classes post next week. Thanks for stopping by. ( SFK)
